What eCrate charges
2% of a paid order, metered email and storage above the free tiers, and nothing else.
eCrate is free to use. There is no plan, no seat price, no feature you have to upgrade to reach, and no charge for having a store that is quiet this month.
It earns three ways, and that is the whole list.
2% of a paid order
Taken automatically at checkout, out of the same payment the shopper makes. You never receive a bill for it and there is nothing to pay separately.
It is 2% of a paid order — not of a placed one. An abandoned cart, a declined card and an order that never completed all cost nothing. A refunded order costs nothing either: the fee goes back when the money does.
- Card fee — Stripe’s, at whatever rate your own Stripe account has. eCrate adds nothing to it.
- eCrate 2% — taken out of the same payment, returned in full if you refund the order.
- Yours — lands in your own Stripe balance, and Stripe pays it out to your bank on its schedule.
Widths are illustrative. The only exact figure here is eCrate’s 2%.
Card processing is separate and is Stripe's, at whatever rate your Stripe account has. eCrate does not add a margin to it and does not penalise you for the gateway you use, because there is only one.
Metered email and storage, above free tiers
Both have a monthly allowance that most stores never reach:
- Marketing email — a generous free monthly allowance, then a small charge per additional thousand. Transactional email is never metered. Order receipts, shipping notifications, password resets and replies from your inbox are free, always, however many you send.
- Media storage — a free allowance of stored images and files, then a small charge per additional gigabyte per month.
The current rates are published on the pricing page, which reads them from the same file the billing does.
Usage-priced extras you have to opt into
A few features cost money per use because they cost eCrate money per use — AI assistance in the editor, and published landing pages, which carry a small charge per page per month. Each says what it costs at the point you use it. If you never use them, they never appear.
Where to see it
Settings → Billing shows the current period as a statement: every line, what it counted, and what it came to. Only the store owner can see it.
What is not charged
- Nothing per staff member.
- Nothing for a storefront, a custom domain you already own, products, orders, customers, discounts, gift cards, loyalty, subscriptions, B2B terms, the customer inbox, the API, or webhooks.
- Nothing to read your own data back out. Settings → API mints a key for the REST API, and there is no charge for using it.
